释义 | NeenahNeenah(nē`nə), city (1990 pop. 23,219), Winnebago co., E Wis., on Lake Winnebago at the mouth of the Fox River; settled c.1835 on the site of a Winnebago village, inc. as a city 1873. Located in a dairy-farming region, Neenah, a Native American word for "water," is known, with its twin city Menasha, as a center for the manufacture of paper and paper products. Other leading industries make dairy products, rubber and wood items, chemicals, clothing, and foundry products. Neenah's industrial development began c.1850 when nearby flour mills were opened. In 1865 its paper industry was established. Of interest is a replica of the home of James Duane Doty, who was the 2d governor of Wisconsin Territory. Hydroelectric power is generated for Neenah and Menasha by falls of the Fox River. |
