Nefed, Vladimir Ivanovich

 

Born Jan. 14 (27), 1916, in the city of Shakhty. Soviet Byelorussian theater scholar, educator, and playwright. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the Byelorussian SSR (1972). Member of the CPSU since 1945.

In 1940, having graduated from the Moscow Institute of Philosophy, Literature, and History, Nefed embarked on a literary career. From 1951 to 1954 he worked in the institutes of the Academy of Sciences of the Byelorussian SSR as a research worker in the art section, from 1954 to 1957 as head of the section, and from 1957 to 1970 as head of the theater and cinematography section. In 1970 he became head of the section of monuments of the history and culture of Byelorussia.

Nefed has made important contributions to the development of Soviet theater studies. In 1947 he began teaching at the Byelorussian Institute of Theatrical Arts in Minsk, becoming a professor in 1964. He received the State Prize of the Byelorussian SSR in 1966 and was awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor and various medals.
