Orlov, Ivan Vasil’evich

Born June 5 (17), 1899, in Tambov. Soviet helminthologist. Corresponding member of the V. I. Lenin All-Union Academy of Agricultural Sciences (1956).

In 1925, Orlov graduated from Kazan Veterinary Institute. From 1929 to 1934 he worked at the Skriabin All-Union Institute of Helminthology. In 1934 he became head of the subdepartment of parasitology at the Voronezh Institute of Veterinary Medicine and later, at the Moscow Technological Institute of the Meat and Dairy Industries (1945–72).

Orlov’s principal works deal with methods of controlling animal helminthiases, including dictyocaulus in sheep, trichinosis in swine, and cysticercus bovis (“beef measles”). From 1969 to 1972 he was vice-president of the International Commission on Trichinellosis. He was awarded two orders and a number of medals.
