poison-dart frog

poi·son-dart frog

(poi′zən-därt′)n. Any of several small, often brightly colored terrestrial or arboreal frogs of the family Dendrobatidae that inhabit the rainforests of Central and South America and secrete highly potent toxins, such as batrachotoxin, from their skin. Also called poison-arrow frog.
[From the use of the frogs' toxic secretions to coat blowgun darts.]
