Vladimir Oskal-Ool
Oskal-Ool, Vladimir Bazyroolovich
(stage name of Sat Bazyroolovich Oskal-ool). Born Dec. 31, 1920, in the village of Khondergei, present-day Dzun-Khemchikskii Raion, Tuva ASSR. Soviet juggler. Director and member of a group of Tuva jugglers and dancing tightrope-walkers. People’s Artist of the RSFSR (1969) and Tuva ASSR (1963). Member of the CPSU since 1944.
In 1939, Oskal-ool graduated from the State School of Circus Art (Moscow). In 1941 he headed a division of the Tuva Theater School. In 1945 the graduates of this division formed the nucleus of his ensemble of jugglers and dancing tightrope-walkers. The group includes his wife and partner, Dunzeimao Oskal-ool, their children Iurii Oskal-ool and Maiia Oskal-ool, and K. Donchiool.
Oskal-ool’s group has performed in India, Burma, Indonesia, Mongolia, Hungary, Bulgaria, France, and the German Democratic Republic. Oskal-ool was a deputy to the first and second convocations of the Supreme Soviet of Tuva ASSR. He has been awarded the Order of Lenin.
