A heterogeneous group of early onset muscle dystrophies–eg, X-linked Emery-Dreifuss syndrome, in which muscular atrophy begins by early adolescence, often accompanied by multiple contractures of the spinal and other muscle groups

rigid spine syndrome

A rare form of muscular dystrophy in which the disease is limited to the paraspinal muscles of the neck and back. Unlike other forms of muscular dystrophy, the weakness and stiffness characteristic of this condition are not progressive.
