Railroad station on the Kuibyshev-Chishmy line, 159 km northeast of Kuibyshev. Population, 26,000 (1974). Pokhvistnevo has plants producing reinforced-concrete products and industrial bitumen, a furniture factory, a milk plant, and a logging and timber distribution establishment. Petroleum and natural gas are extracted nearby. Pokhvistnevo also has a medical school.
