Pokshenga

Pokshenga

 

(also Pokshen’ga), a river in Arkhangelsk Oblast, RSFSR, a left tributary of the Pinega (Severnaia Dvina River basin). The Pokshenga measures 170 km long and drains an area of4,960 sq km. It is fed primarily by snow. There is high water in May and June. The mean flow rate 25 km from the mouth is approximately 44 cu m per sec. The Pokshenga freezes in late October or November and the ice breaks up in late April or in May. Timber is floated on the river.
