Pokute
Pokut’e
an upland in the Ukrainian SSR occupying the southwestern part of the Podol’e Upland. It has elevations to 390 m and is composed primarily of sandstones, limestones, shales, and gypsums covered with thick loesslike deposits. Typical are the combination of hill and ridge forms; karst plateaus; and deeply cut (to 100–150 m), frequently canyonlike (in the area along the Dnestr), river valleys. Oak forests and meadow steppes are encountered.
