SCTP
SCTP
(1) (Stream Control Transmission Protocol) An alternative to TCP that supports multiple transmission paths. Designed to facilitate SS7 signaling over TCP/IP, SCTP supports multiple IP addresses from the same host (multihomed host) and treats the data streams from these addresses as one session. Unlike TCP, which requires a strict order of delivery, SCTP does not. Thus, if one of the data streams fails, the others are allowed to continue. See SIGTRAN.(2) (SCreened Twisted Pair) See twisted pair.
