Rijeka, Gulf of

(Riječki zaljev), a gulf in the northern Adriatic Sea on the coast of Yugoslavia between the Istrian Peninsula and the islands of Krk and Cres. Connected to the Adriatic by the Kvarner. Length, 28 km; width, 22 km, depth, 40-50 m. The shores are hilly. Tides are irregular and diurnal, with a height of 0.7 m. The major port is Rijeka.
