Rikhard Antons

Antons, Rikhard Ioganovich

 

Born Feb. 11, 1899, in Estliand Province; died May 10, 1966, in Moscow. Soviet economist; academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Estonian SSR (1961). CPSU member after 1920.

After graduating from the Institute of the Red Professoriat in Leningrad (1934), Antons worked as instructor and scholar. He was chairman of political economy departments at the republic’s higher educational institutions. He served as pro-rector of the University of Tartu (1949–51), rector of the Estonian Academy of Agriculture (1951–54), and director of the Economics Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Estonian SSR (1954–66). He investigated agrarian relations in bourgeois Estonia and demonstrated the reactionary essence of the bourgeois land reform. He also worked on problems of reproduction in Estonian agriculture.
