Aerotank
Aerotank
a device for the biological purification of sewage. It is a concrete or reinforced concrete flow-through reservoir, divided by partitions into a series of corridors 8 to 10 m wide, 4 to 5 m high, and up to 150 m long. The corridors are equipped with aerators through which air is passed to supply oxygen to artificially introduced active silt and to mix it with the sewage. The liquid mixture flowing through the aerotank is purified as its organic pollutants are oxidized by the microorganisms in the active silt. The sewage remains in the aerotank from six to 12 hours.
