city (1991 pop. 79,043), in the Parts of Lindsey, North Lincolnshire, E England. Situated on an ironstone field, Scunthorpe was a center of iron and steel manufacture from the early 1900s to the 1970s. Today its principal industry is the manufacture of apparel.
