[′pō·lər tranz′mish·ən] (communications) A method of signaling in teletypewriter transmission in which direct currents flowing in opposite directions represent a mark and a space respectively, and absence of current indicates a no-signal condition. By extension, any system of signaling that uses three conditions, representing a mark, a space, or a no-signal condition.
