Polenov, Dmitrii Vasil’evich
Born May 28 (June 9), 1806, in St. Petersburg; died there Oct. 13 (25), 1878. Russian historian and bibliographer.
Polenov graduated from the University of St. Petersburg in 1827 and served in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 1832 to 1836 he was a secretary in the Russian embassy in Athens. In 1851, Polenov became a member of the Russian Archaeological Society, later serving as its secretary. He aligned himself with the historians of the state school. His main works are devoted to the history of the Russian chronicles, as well as the history of the 18th-century ulozhenie (code) commissions, about whose work he published valuable documents.
