Poletika, Grigorii Andreevich

Poletika, Grigorii Andreevich

Born 1725; died 1784. Ukrainian political and social figure.

In 1745, Poletika graduated from the Kiev Academy. From 1767 to 1769 he was a deputy of the ulozhenie (code) commission from the Lubiany Regiment, where he acted as ideologist for a segment of the Ukraininian dvorianstvo (nobility or gentry) who advocated Ukrainian autonomy. Some historians have attributed authorship of History of the Russians that was published in 1846 to Poletika, as well as to his son V. G. Poletika. The elder Poletika’s public activity was aimed at equalizing the rights of the Ukrainian and Russian dvorianstvo and at establishing Ukrainian autonomy.
