Siro Akabori
Akabori, Siro
Born Oct. 20, 1900. Japanese organic chemist and biochemist; member of the Japanese Academy of Sciences; foreign member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1966).
Akabori graduated from Tohuku University in 1925 and pursued further studies in organic chemistry in Europe and the USA. Since 1935 he has taught chemistry at Osaka University, becoming a professor there in 1938. In 1958 he organized and became first director of the Protein Institute at Osaka University. In 1966 he became rector of Osaka University and president of the Japanese Biochemical Society. In 1967 he became president of the Institute for Physical and Chemical Research. His well-known works include Development of Organic Chemistry and Amino Acids and Protein.
