Vidadi Molla Veli

Born 1709, in Shamkhor; died 1809, in Shykhly. Azerbaijani poet. Clerk and teacher; served under the Georgian ruler Iraklii II.

The realistic lyricism of Vidadi’s poetry is similar to that of the as hug (folk poet and singer). Vidadi was critical of the internecine wars and feudal cruelty. The pessimistic moods of the poet are reflected in The Cranes, Message to the Poet Vagif, and You Will Shed a Few Tears. Mystical motifs are occasionally heard in his lyrical poetry. Vidadi’s goshmas, ghazals, and mukhammasas are written in the language of the people. Vidadi was a close friend of the poet Vagif.
