Stroganov Chronicle

one of the earliest Siberian chronicles, entitled On the Taking of the Siberian Land. Some scholars believe that it was compiled between 1620 and 1630, and others, between 1668 and 1673. Still other scholars maintain that it is a later work, derived from the Esipov Chronicle of 1636.

The Stroganov Chronicle is based on nonextant chronicle data and on materials from the Stroganov patrimonial archives, including the Stroganovs” correspondence with Ermak’s detachment. The chronicle provides a detailed account of the earliest stage of Russia’s annexation of Siberia, focusing on the Stroganovs” initiative in organizing Ermak’s campaign.
