ring sign A term referring to the appearance by CT urography or by intravenous pyelography in which radiocontrast outlines sloughing (detached) renal papillae in papillary necrosis, which often have a triangular shapering sign Imaging Annular filling defect(s) in the renal calices by IVP, which correspond to necrotic sloughed renal papilla, seen in analgesic abuse, papillary necrosis, sickle cell anemia.
