(Pseudocheirus), a genus of mammals of the family Phalangeridae. The body measures 18–45 cm and the tail 17–40 cm; they weigh as much as 1.5 kg. The tail is prehensile. There are about 12 species. They are found in Australia, Tasmania, and New Guinea. Ring-tailed opossums inhabit forests, shrub thickets, and rocky areas. They live in trees and feed on leaves, flowers, and fruits. They are hunted for their fur.
