Owens Valley Radio Observatory

(oh-wĕnz) (OVRO) The radio observatory of the California Institute of Technology, located in a semidesert region of California at an altitude of 1200 meters. It contains two 27-meter dishes that were an early radio interferometer but are now used for solar observations, a 40-m dish used mostly for VLBI, and the OVRO Millimeter Array, an interferometer consisting of six 10.4-m dishes, laid out on a T-shaped track 200 m × 220 m.
