Location:Southwestern Colorado. Accessible by US 160 and 285. Nearby cities/towns include Alamosa, Monte Vista, and Saguache.

Activities:Camping, fishing, boating, rafting, hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, ORV driving, hunting, cross-country and downhill skiing, snowmobiling.
Special Features:Contains portions of four wilderness areas: La Garita, Weminuche, San Juan, and Sangre de Cristo. Headwaters of the Rio Grande de Norte, third longest river in the United States, are within the forest. The Continental Divide runs for 236 miles along most of the western border of the forest.
