Poljica Statute

a collection of norms of medieval law that were in effect in Poljica, an autonomous region in Dalmatia, until the early 19th century. The text of the Poljica Statute, which has been preserved, is written in Old Croatian. The first articles of the statute were composed either in 1400 or in the mid-15th century. The provisions of the statute, which were written at different times, contain norms of criminal, civil, and procedural law and describe the social and economic relations in the communes of Poljica in the 15th through 18th centuries. The provisions also describe some medieval institutions common to all Slavs, such as the verv’, which are also known from the Russkaia Pravda and other Slavic legal monuments.
