Thiry-Vella fistula

(tē'rē vāl'ah), experimental isolation of a segment of intestine in an animal; a loop of intestine is isolated, its vascular and nervous connections are preserved, and continuity of the intestinal tract is restored by an end-to-end anastomosis; each end of the isolated segment is connected to an independent opening in the abdominal wall.
