[′strän·tē·əm ′səl‚fīd] (inorganic chemistry) SrS A gray powder with a hydrogen sulfide aroma in moist air, slightly soluble in water, soluble (with decomposition) in acids, melts above 2000°C; used in depilatories and luminous paints and as a chemicals intermediate. Also known as strontium monosulfide.
