Van Geyt, Louis
Born Sept. 24, 1927, in Antwerp. Figure in the Belgian working-class movement.
Van Geyt graduated from the Free University of Brussels with a degree in economics. In 1948 he joined the Communist Party of Belgium. From 1952 to 1955 van Geyt was a contributor to the newspaper Le Drapeau Rouge (The Red Flag), a central organ of the CPB. From 1955 to 1960 he served as assistant secretary of the Central Committee of the CPB. He was elected a member of the Central Committee in 1957 and a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee in 1960. From 1960 to 1971 van Geyt served as political secretary of the Brussels Federation of the CPB. He was elected chairman of the CPB in December 1972.
