POLR2A

A gene on chromosome 17p13.1 that encodes the largest subunit of DNA-dependent RNA polymerase II, the polymerase responsible for synthesising messenger RNA in eukaryotes. In combination with several other polymerase subunits, POLR2A forms the DNA-binding domain of the polymerase, a groove in which the DNA template is transcribed into RNA.
