Polui

 

a river in Tiumen’ Oblast, RSFSR, a right tributary of the Ob’. It is formed by the confluence of the Glubokii Polui and Sukhoi Polui rivers. The Polui is 369 km long and drains an area of 21,000 sq km; measured from the source of the Glubokii Polui, it is 635 km long. It flows across the northwestern Western Siberian Lowland; its lower course flows through Lake Bol’shoi Poluiskii Sor. The Polui empties into the Ob’ at the city of Salekhard. It is fed by snow and rain. The mean river discharge at the mouth is 170 cu m per sec. The river freezes in October, and the ice breaks up in May. Timber is floated on the Polui.
