Spiridon Lampros
Lampros, Spiridon
Born Apr. 8, 1851, on the island of Kerkira (Corfu); died July 23, 1919, in Kifisia. Greek government figure, historian, founder of Byzantine studies in Greece.
From 1887 to 1917, Lampros was a professor at the University of Athens; in 1904 he founded the journal Neos Hellenomnemon. He published a catalog of Greek manuscripts by Afon (1895–1900) and many Byzantine texts, including works by Michael Khoniat (with commentary). His work A History of Greece (vols. 1–6, 1886–1908) devotes considerable attention to the domestic history of Byzantium. From November 1916 to April 1917 he was prime minister of Greece.
