vertical resolution[′vərd·ə·kəl ‚rez·ə′lü·shən] (electronics) The number of distinct horizontal lines, alternately black and white, that can be seen in the reproduced image of a television or facsimile test pattern; it is primarily fixed by the number of horizontal lines used in scanning.
