Quierzy Capitulary of 877
Quierzy Capitulary of 877
an ordinance issued in Quierzy by King Charles II the Bald of the West Frankish Kingdom.
One of the most important provisions of the ordinance made the position of count hereditary. The ordinance gave juridical form and sanction to what had already taken place by the end of the ninth century in the feudalized Frankish society: the transformation of the count from a state official into the seigneur of a district.
