Aleksi-Meskhishvili, Vladimir Shalvovich

 

Born Sept. 15 (28), 1915, in Tiflis. Soviet architect. Honored Art Worker of the Georgian SSR (1961).

In 1939, Aleksi-Meskhishvili graduated from the Georgian Industrial Institute in Tbilisi, and he has been teaching at the Georgian Polytechnical Institute (also in Tbilisi) since 1955. His work includes the Sports Palace in Tbilisi (1961; planned jointly with Iu. Kasradze and the engineer D. Kad-zhaia), the Iori Restaurant on the shore of the Tbilisi Sea (1962), the Council of Ministers of the Georgian SSR Rest Home in Pitsunda (1962), the Georgian Agricultural Institute in Tbilisi, and the Lenin Square Station of the Tbilisi Subway. These last two date from 1967 and won the Sh. Rustaveli State Prize of the Georgian SSR in 1969. Aleksi-Meskhishvili has also been awarded the Badge of honor.
