Location:7 miles southwest of Montpelier, in the southeast corner of Idaho.
Facilities:Boat launch, hiking trails.
Activities:Fishing, hunting, biking, horseback riding, boating.
Special Features:Surrounded by mountains, the refuge lies in the Bear Lake Valley at elevations ranging from 5,925 feet on the marsh to 6,800 feet on the rocky slopes of Merkley Mountain.
Habitats: 19,000 acres of marsh, open water, and grasslands at an elevation of 5,900 feet.
Access: Open during daylight hours.
Wild life: Important as a nesting area for white-faced ibis, Canada geese, canvasback and redhead ducks. Feeding and nesting grounds for greater sandhill cranes, many species of ducks, and a variety of water and shorebirds.
