Szentes-Vekerzug

a burial ground of the Scythian period, dating from the sixth to fourth centuries B.C., located near the city of Szentes in Hungary. From 1950 to 1954 the Hungarian archaeologist M. Párducz excavated more than 150 burials in shallow pits. Most of the burials contained inhumations; some burials yielded cremations, with the ashes sometimes in urns. Among the finds were clay vessels, bronze ornaments, paste beads, iron knives, spearheads, swords, and bronze Scythian arrowheads. Burials of horses were also discovered, some with remains of chariots. The finds indicate that the local population maintained relations with the Scythians and Thracians.
