Spitak
(until 1948, Amamlu), a city (since 1960) under republic jurisdiction and administrative center of Spitak Raion, Armenian SSR. Railroad station on the Tbilisi-Yerevan line. Population, 13,300 (1975). Spitak is situated on the Pambak River (Kura River basin). It has a sugar refinery, a creamery, an elevator-construction factory, a factory for the production of simulated leather, and a flour mill. There also are branches of factories producing knitwear and other garments.
