Struev, Aleksandr Ivanovich

Born Feb. 10, (23), 1906, in Alchevsk, present-day Kommunarsk, Voroshilovgrad Oblast. Soviet state and party figure. Hero of Socialist Labor (1976). Member of the CPSU since 1927.

The son of a worker, Struev first conducted soviet and party work in 1925. From 1944 to 1947 he was chairman of the Stalino (now Donetsk) oblast executive committee. From 1947 to 1953 he was first secretary of the Stalino oblast committee of the Communist Party of the Ukraine, and from 1954 to 1958 he was first secretary of the Perm’ oblast committee of the CPSU. He was deputy chairman of the Council of Ministers of the RSFSR between 1958 and 1962 and chairman of the State Trade Committee of the Council of Ministers of the USSR between 1962 and 1965. In September 1965, Struev became minister of trade of the USSR.

A delegate to the Nineteenth through Twenty-fifth Congresses of the CPSU, Struev was a member of the Central Auditing Commission of the CPSU from 1952 to 1956. He was a member of the Central Committee of the CPSU from 1956 to 1961 and has worked on the committee since 1966. He was a deputy to the second through the fifth, and the seventh through the ninth convocations of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. Struev has been awarded five Orders of Lenin, two other orders, and various medals.
