Ustiug Chronicle Codex

Ustiug Chronicle Codex

an all-Russian chronicle codex compiled in the city of Ustiug at the beginning of the 16th century and supplemented by later entries concerning local events. The chronicle covers the period from 852 through the end of the 16th century. It is based on the All-Russian Chronicle Codex of 1494 and other documents. The entries concerning Ustiug, which cover the period from 1218 to 1571, were written by local chroniclers.

The Ustiug Chronicle Codex is a valuable source for information on the colonization of the Russian north and contains abundant material on the campaigns of Muscovite detachments on the Dvina, in the Volga and Ural regions, and elsewhere.
