Web: www.visittheoregoncoast.com Description:Byway runs along the full length of Oregon's coastline, offering access to beaches, temperate rain forest, sand dunes, rugged cliffs, and historic towns. More than 40 miles of coastline fromFlorence to Coos Bay make up the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area. Numerous parks along the way offer opportunities for recreation and wildlife viewing, including Cape Blanco State Park, the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forests, and six national wildlife refuges. Historic sites include the Fort Clatsop National Memorial, where the Lewis and Clark Expedition spent the winter of 1805-06. A number of lighthouses in the area include Cape Blanco,the oldest lighthouse on the Oregon coast as well as Yaquina Head and Heceta Head lighthouses. Other points of interest include the Oregon Coast Aquarium in Newport, Sea Lion Caves, and Cannon Beach, site of the annual Sandcastle Building Contest in early June.
