Strukov, Anatolii

Born Mar. 24 (Apr. 6), 1901, in the village of Spasskoe, in what is now Tula Oblast. Soviet pathoanatomist. Academician of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR (1966); Hero of Socialist Labor (1971). Member of the CPSU since 1942.

Strukov graduated from the medical department of the University of Voronezh in 1925. He was head of the subdepartment of pathoanatomy at the Kharkov Medical Institute from 1938 to 1945 (the institution was located in Orenburg from 1941 to 1944). He headed the laboratory of pulmonary pathology at the Institute of Normal Anatomy and Pathoanatomy in Moscow from 1945 to 1948. Strukov headed the subdepartment of pathoanatomy at the First Moscow Medical Institute from 1953 to 1972. In 1961 he also became head of the laboratory of the Institute of Human Morphology.

Strukov’s main works have dealt with tuberculosis, collagen diseases, and the pathology of lung disorders, atherosclerosis, hypertension, and myocardial infarction. Strukov was editor in chief of a publishing house specializing in medical literature from 1948 to 1959. In 1968 he became editor in chief of the journal Arkhiv patologii. He founded a school of pathoanatomical thought.

Strukov is a member of the Leopoldine German Academy of Researchers in Natural Sciences (1966). He received the Lenin Prize in 1974 for his series of works on the pathomorphology of rheumatic diseases. He has been awarded the Order of Lenin, three other orders, and various medals.
