Thomaston

(tŏm`əstən), city (1990 pop. 9,127), seat of Upson co., W central Ga., near the Flint River; inc. 1857. It was long a company town with textile mills (since 1833) and plants making textile products, but in 2001 Thomaston Mills went bankrupt. A variety of textile products are still manufactured. Other manufactures include pianos, audio equipment, lumber, and metal, paper, and plastic products. Of interest are an old covered bridge and a number of historic homes.
