polyribosomes

pol·y·ri·bo·somes

(pol'ē-rī'bō-sōmz), Conceptually, two or more ribosomes connected by a molecule of messenger RNA; structures satisfying this concept can be seen in electron micrographs and can be sedimented at rates consistent with aggregates of ribosomes (whence it is often, sometimes incorrectly, assumed that aggregates containing ribosomes are true polyribosomes); polyribosomes are active in protein synthesis. Synonym(s): polysomes
