[′er ¦in‚tāk] (aerospace engineering) An open end of an air duct or similar projecting structure so that the motion of the aircraft is utilized in capturing air to be conducted to an engine or ventilator. (mining engineering) A device for supplying a compressor with clean air at the lowest possible temperature.

outside-air intake

An opening or inlet through which outside air is brought into an air-conditioning system or into a boiler room. Also called a fresh-air intake.
