Tree-Seed Drill

Tree-Seed Drill

a machine for sowing the seeds of various tree and brush varieties. The tractor-mounted SSLN-1 and the horse-drawn SLK-2A and SL-4A tree-seed drills are used in the USSR. The SSLN-1 model plants in a single row and can sow seeds by the row and band-hole methods in creating shelter belts. The seed box is divided into two compartments with separate coil-type feed mechanisms for sowing small, medium, and large seeds. The cavity of the hoe colter is split into two parts: the front part is for hole (dibble) sowing, and the rear part is for drilling. The productivity of the tree seed drill is 0.8 hectares per hour; the seed placement depth is 2–10 cm. The feed mechanisms are driven by the left wheel. The SL-4A drill is designed for band sowing in tree nurseries, the SLK-2A for sowing conifer seed in furrows using the band-hole method.
