Vanoise
a mountain massif in the Alps of Savoie, France; situated between the valleys of the Arc River on the south and the Isère on the north. Altitude, up to 3,861 m (Pointe de la Grande Casse). Vanoise is composed of crystalline Paleozoic rock, mesozoic schist, and limestone. It is characterized by alpine relief and has small glaciers, coniferous mountain forests, and meadows. In 1963 a national park was formed in Vanoise.
