River Hydrology

the branch of land hydrology that studies rivers, runoff processes, and detrital processes in river channels and basins. River hydrology studies the position of river channels in plan (river meandering), the shape of transverse and longitudinal profiles, and the effect of climate, forest cover, agricultural technology, and hydraulic improvements on discharge. Other phenomena studied include the relationship between discharge and precipitation and evaporation, the process by which rivers are fed, the water and heat balance of basins, the thermal regime of rivers and basins, and ice phenomena. River hydrology also works to predict the hydrologic regime of rivers, that is, to make hydrologic forecasts.
