释义 | United Service OrganizationsUnited Service Organizations(USO), organization that supplies social, recreational, welfare, and spiritual facilities to members of the armed services. The USO was organized in 1941, originally to coordinate the efforts of the Salvation Army, YMCA, YWCA, National Catholic Community Services, National Travelers Aid Association, and the National Jewish Welfare Board to provide support services for U.S. military personnel. The USO was discontinued at the end of 1947, but was reactivated during the Korean War. With programs in some 160 centers worldwide, it is supported by voluntary contributions. |
