Ten Mile Creek State Fish & Wildlife Area
Location:In southeastern Jefferson County and western sections of HamiltonCounty, with access via rural roads leading from IL 142 and IL 14.
Facilities:Archery range, hand trap range (shotgun use only), rifle range.
Activities:Fishing (fish size and catch limits; boats 10 HP motor limit), hunting, trapping, wildlife viewing, hiking, target shooting.
Special Features:About one-third of the land that is now part of Ten Mile Creek was oncestrip-mined. Since 1988 when the land was purchased, the site beenreclaimed to varying degrees, with some areas being returned to flatagriculture land and others to steeply sloped areas interspersed withponds and lakes. The remainder of the site, which was not mined, is amixture of fields and forest bisected by small streams.
