Vertical Scanning
Vertical Scanning
sequential (line by line) discrete scanning of a television image in a vertical direction. A vertical scanning generator with a deflecting system moves the electronic beam from top to bottom linearly over time (direct stroke) on the screen of the kinescope or photosensitive (target) electrode of the pick-up tube and then returns rapidly to the initial position (back stroke). The duration of the back stroke is nearly 8 percent of the scan period. The vertical sweep frequency (frame frequency)is equal to the rated frequency of the commercial mains (50 or60 cycles per sec).
